The magnificent teachings in the Shambhala root text The Letter of the Golden Key Which Fulfills Desire, present the warrior’s view, practice and approach to working with the potent topics of richness and desire—so vitally important in this materialistic world.
During this extended weekend, we will study the text, learn the practice of Enriching Presence, and open to the realms of our sense perceptions. Beloved senior teacher Judith Simmer-Brown will guide us through talks, practices, discussions, and various creative exercises to a direct experience of the tangible and intangible richness within ourselves, within society and the natural world.
Judith Simmer-Brown, Ph.D., is Distinguished Professor of Contemplative and Religious Studies Emeritx at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, where she has taught since 1978. A Buddhist practitioner since the early 1970’s, she became a student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1974 and served as an acharya in Shambhala from 2000-2022. Her teaching specialties are meditation practice, Shambhala teachings, Buddhist philosophy, tantric Buddhism, and contemplative higher education. Her book, Dakini’s Warm Breath (Shambhala 2001), explores the feminine principle as it reveals itself in meditation practice and everyday life for women and men. She has also edited Meditation and the Classroom: Contemplative Pedagogy for Religious Studies (SUNY 2011). She and her husband, Richard, have two children and five grandchildren.
Prerequisite: The Sacred Path of Shambhala: Outrageous and Inscrutable.
To extract the essence of the proposed exercises, presence at the Center is necessary.
The program will be taught in English with French translation.
