The contemplative arts and the Buddhadharma can inform and enhance one another as effective liberation practices.

The contemplative arts provide ways to embody and express the insights of the Buddhadharma. In turn, the Buddhadharma provides a View for the contemplative arts as liberation paths.

This presentation considers how these how these two liberation practices meet and enhance each other. It will include references to the Five paths of Buddhism, Yogacara Buddhism and the contemplative way with the phenomenal world.


John McQuade has been a Dharma student of Sakyong Chogyam Trungpa for decades. He currently studies with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

He is the founder of Nalanda Miksang contemplative photography and co-author of Looking and Seeing and Heart of Photography.  He is a meditation instructor, Shambhala Training teacher and a Maitri Five Wisdoms teacher.
