Conduct

On Shambhala Day, February 12, 2021, Shambhala implemented the new Code of Conduct. It applies to everyone participating in a Shambhala activity, without exception.
To consult the document: The Shambhala Code of Conduct.

It includes the following policies:

  • THE SHAMBHALA CODE OF CONDUCT
    – The Practices of Good Conduct
    – Protecting the Space for Everyone
  • POLICY ON CHILD PROTECTION
  • POLICY ON THE CONDUCT OF PEOPLE HOLDING POSITIONS OF AUTHORITY
  • POLICY TO ADDRESS SEXUAL MISCONDUCT
  • POLICY ON DIVERSITY, INCLUSIVITY & ANTI-DISCRIMINATION

The Code of Conduct policies will be reviewed and updated every couple of years, and will continue to evolve with our ever-deepening understanding of how to skillfully address situations of concern and/or conflict.

Please do not hesitate to contact Laurence Corman, Head of Societal Health and Well-Being, if you need to report any situation of concern and/or conflict within our sangha.

The Montréal Shambhala Centre is part of a global community which aspires to awaken kindness, goodness and wisdom within society.

In 2018, the community was shaken by reports of misconduct on the part of Shambhala leaders, including allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse of power on the part of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, Shambhala’s lineage holder. None of the reported incidences took place in Montréal.

Several organisational changes ensued, including the establishment of an interim governance board mandated to carry out the structural changes deemed necessary. The Code of Conduct policies result from these events.
